A small to medium, rounded deciduous tree with a more glossy, leathery and shallow lobed leaves than the standard Trident Maple. This variety only occurs in two small populations in the north of Taiwan where it grows in lowland evergreen forests.

This variety is well suited to bonsai and is much sort after.
