A deciduous flowering shrub grown for its vibrant pink flowers from late winter into Spring.

A very hardy plant that can grow to 3m but can tolerate heavy pruning to keep it smaller.

This shrub has mid green foliage with dull green undersides, which turn yellow and red in autumn. The pink currant shaped flowers, up to 15cm long, are fragrant and appear at the same time as the leaves in spring. The bark is a dark brownish-grey with prominent paler brown lenticels. The growth rate is moderate.

This hardy shrub thrives in most positions and makes a beautiful hedge. It can tolerate frost and drought, as well as moderate coastal conditions. It prefers a moist location and can adapt to various soil types, including clay.

For best results, plant this shrub in a full sun to partly shaded area and it will be reasonably pest and disease resistant.
